Rayman Origins

In a Sea of “realism” and blockbuster titles hitting mainstream “Hardcore games” it is nice to find a title that cleans the pallet of dark tones of life of your modern games and take use back into the old schools of gaming and remind us of the days were colors were ok and cheeriness was fun with Ubisoft’s  Rayman Origins. Not only has a nod to the old school, but a great for the new also.

Released in 2011, this 2d platformer reminds us how these games can still kick ass. Released during a season of triple A titles to steal our money I believe this was one of the best I played of the genre. The art, music, and gameplay are only described in two worlds, pure fun.

Simple in every way, the story takes you as Rayman and his friends to stop these baddies that ruin his world after basically ruining their day after a nice relaxing leisure nap from his friends disturbed the underworld.  You jump, climb and punch your way through dozens of levels of pure awesome platforming fun. The detail of art in this game reminds you of cartoons such as Looney Toons, and colors to match. With different themes that are kooky and fun as the last. Levels like a jungle theme, music theme were it’s a desert of Didgeridoos, ice cream mountains, and even a wacky oven/ furnaces levels will keep you laughing and enjoying yourself but the gameplay will keep you going.

What can I say about the controls other than they feel like a dream. It feels like if you miss a jump you feel it is your fault, it is challenging enough to never make you bored, but it is simple enough for anyone to pick up, and the multiplayer on all the versions (minus vita, which I played all the way though) you can take a friend along to explore this colorful and comedic world. Learning new skills that will make your run through of pass levels more fun to go back and play.

All as I say, if you’re a fan of fun. You owe yourself to at least rent this game; I don’t care how, just do it. Why are you still reading it, JUST GO DO IT!
